Default 2004 truck what motor does it have?

I am new to the cummins. I have had fords with both the 7.3 and the 6.0. I am thinking about buying a Dodge now. I have a friend with a 04 3500 Laramie 4x4 for sale. I know it's not the HO motor and was not impressed by the power when I drove it in 2004. He has since put in the edge system and says it's much better. How good is the motor, what is it? 24V ? Can I get the HP up to where the newer HO motors are or more?

thats the section you wanna start researching in. I don't recall what the actual difference is on the HO's but i'm sure someone will chime in.
my grandpa just picked up an 04 with an edge in it with no attitude, scoots pretty well, but not dmax status.

look at the build date. That will tell you if it is a 04 or 2004.5. The 2004 had a 305hp rating.I dont recall but i think its after July 1 that it becomes a 2004.5 The 2004.5 has a better computer and a 325Hp rating.

HOs' have J-jets and two-piece manifolds as opposed to SOs' saddle jets and one-piece manifolds?

In 04.5 everything went to J-jets and two-piece manifolds?

I haven't looked at the date, but I did drive it a few years ago when my friend bought it. It is not the 325hp because it was really lacking in power. He has since purchased the Six Gun bundle and says the HP is much better. But does this just bring it up to the HO horse power rating or is it that much better.
