i was wandering around the "car wars" lot today and was wondering about the differences and how to tell.

to tell the difference of the two is by a couple of ways. The 04.5 had a CAT and the 04 doesn't. Also the 04.5 is rated for 325 HP and 600 ftLB. The 04 was rated for 305HP and 555 ftLB. There are also other differences in programming, injectors, and exhaust size. Hope this helps.

Rear axle size? Didn't it increase from 10.5" to 11.5" AAM?

 

i'm just curious about how to identify them on the lot. the 305/325 will be the easiest for me.

 

Look at the sticker on the valve cover under hp rating if it's 305 it's an 04 if it's 325 it's the 04.5. Hope this helps.

the 04's already had 11.5 rear

 

Some of the early automatic 03s had 10.5s, all the HOs had 11.5s...

I'm not too sure about the axle size... I think that was just an option. I could be wrong, I have just never heard of that before. The 04 had a mechanical waste gate, the 04.5 has an electronic one.

 

And any one w/the dodge ram emblem in the center of the tailgate is an '05, right? Or did the '04.5s also have the emblem in the center of the tailgate?
