First Diesel need help on what to install.
Hi All,
I love this site, as a newbe Diesel owner a site like this helps ppls like me.
I just bought a 2006 5.9L 2500 LWB 4X4.
I'm stumped on what to add and or what not to add. So far I've added a K&N Cold Air Intake which has me up at 20.5mpg on the HWY.
As I love the sound of Diesel's I was thinking of replacing my stock exhuast with a 5" turbo back one. I've looked at Magna FLow as they seem to have the 5" system. As right now my truck smells like a propane truck when it is warming up, it doesnt have that smell of a diesel.
The other thing, is it worth my money to put a Edge programer in? If I'm not hauling anything?
What I'm looking at doing is tryin to get more mileage then anything as I do more HWY then city driving.. Right now I get 780km's to a tank of fuel sorry not sure what it is in miles, up here Canada seems to be backwards on stuff at times!
I'm not a horsepower junkie yet
Regards,
SW

Well you can't make a mistake on letting it breathe easier. Once you get the bug will will be an HP junkie for sure.
Shop around on your exhaust, prices very greatly. Your definitely in the right place for info. welcome to the site.

yeah the edge would be a great programmer. get some gauges for your boost, egt's and transmission if its a auto. look up expandit exhaust. they are way cheaper and just as nice. welcome to the site.
Check out Diesel Dawgs prices on exhausts, they're unbelievable !

Thanks someone told me that I need a muffler? As with the turbo you need some back pressure? Then someone else told me that the Turbo is like a muffler to a dagree??
As if I can run a straight system, then I would ask some of my buddies, as I sure one of them could build something!
I stumpped on this as you can see.

Nah. You don't need a muffler. Turbos make their power using exhaust flow and Drive Pressure, meaning the exhaust pressure as it exits the exhaust manifold and enters the turbo's turbine housing. After the turbine is turning, the faster you can get the exhaust out of the turbo, (read: unrestrictive exhaust system) the better.
The Edge Juice is a great choice, especially if you get it as a package deal with the Attitude monitor. The Attitude allows you to switch power levels on the fly, as well as replacing the gauges you see on most modified trucks (excluding trans temp, if you have an automatic). The Edge Juice/Attitude combo keeps an eye on all the important stuff like Exhaust Gas Temps (EGT's), turbo boost, transmission/converter/clutch slippage, engine coolant temp, engine load among others. You set the parameters (max EGT, max boost, etc) you want and if anything gets out of kilter, the Attitude will decrease the amount of fuel going to the engine. This allows you to watch the road, or track, or whatever your driving on instead of having to watch analog guages for trouble and getting your right foot out of the fuel before you hurt something.
Edge also offers a "hot unlock" for the Juice/Attitude that raises the max power output from 100hp - 250 ft.lbs of torque to 160hp and 350 lb-ft. It will cost you another $100.00 for the "hot unlock" code, but be forewarned. Your stock turbo and transmission won't be happy with the "hot".
