Default Coolant Questions

I am about to change my coolant on 2006 5.9. I found some ZEREX G-05 that meets Cummins standards but am curious if anyone has any input. I havent had the chance to look at changing it but what is the best way to do it and what is the capacity. Thanks

Yeah that coolant should work. All u really need is 5year 100,000 mile coolant. the capacity is about 4 1/2 gallons.

Be sure it has the HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Tech) package. Actually it be better to use Mopar Coolant. That way you won't have any warranty issues, IMHO. 3 gal of coolant and 3 gal of distilled water ought to be plenty. Remove the thermostat to help prevent air lock. While your at it, may as well change the t-stat, IMHO.

No need to remove the thermostat, it has a built in air bleed.

The newer Prestone will work with anything FYI...I used it when my water pump failed on the road.

I see so many say to mix 50/50, why not 70/30 like I've use in all of my cars for better boil over protection and better protection in cold temps?

Yes Prestone will work but unless its HOAT it will not hold up as long or do as well of a job of protecting your cooling system as the HOAT coolant that Dodge & Cummins recommend being used.

I use CAT ELC in my stuff....it's not the cheapest but it works and is pretty user friendly.

as long as it has good additives so air bubbles don't put a hole in ur cylinders it should work
