Key cycling question
Yesterday i got in my 04.5 after being at work all day (10hrs) turned the key on let it warm up, and then after the light shut off, i cycled the key i think 3 more times to make sure it is good and warm and i guess after cycling the key 4 times, on the message center (where the odometer shows) it showed "done" and then showed a couple lines... and counted down... What did i do?

also, it seems like it takes forever for it to get warm... I will start it up and normally let it idle for maybe 5 mins and then i take off.. granted i only live maybe 5 miles from work.. i normally keep the rpms somewhere around 2k to try to get it to normal running temp... I stuck a piece of cardboard infront of the radiator to help, but it seems like it still wont get to 200.. it normally gets up to about 140 by the time i get to work.. I know it is bad for them to run cold so i am trying to avoid it but i just cant figure it out

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, the glow plugs are going to cause a massive explosion!!!

Actually what you did was bring up the code display. If your check engine light comes on, you can do that trick to bring up codes. BTW, no glow plugs, it's all grid heater.

On the 2nd part, might be due to a fault t-stat. With it being below 0 here, it takes mine a while to warm up. I drive around town a little bit to raise the temp gauge, then I head out of town a ways too get it fully warmed up.
See i kind of thought about maybe it being a faulty t-stat, but once i start running it around awhile 10-15 mins it will shoot up to 200, but just sitting at a stop light for a couple mins, it will drop pretty quick to 140-160.. I just dont want to burn up my new truck....
When i came to work as someone had posted above, To keep my blower fan on low and on low heat at first, as before i had it full blast on the hottest setting and it would never get warm.. Now this morning, i left the heater off and set it on mid setting and it was at 200 right before i got to work!!! So i guess it was just OPERATOR ERRRRRORRRRR
