CHECK YOUR COOLANT

CHECK YOUR COOLANT
Driving down the road last night. Check guages light came on.Motor overheating. WTF? I limped on back home. I noticed my overflow bottle was DRY. I opened the radiator cap. DO NOT RECCOMEND! I did it on a hunch I was out of coolant. Even under pressure, about 4 drops of coolant came out....that was IT! I noticed the TUBE RUNNING NEXT TO THE CAP TO THE OVER FLOW BOTTLE AT THE NIPPLE ON THE RADIATOR was leaking. THERE IS NO HOSE CLAMP ON THAT NIPPLE. I looked under and could see where coolant had been dripping. My advise......splurge. Spend the 24 cents and clamp it at the nipple. Just might save you on a motor.
FWIW.. Mine is an 06. After some research, this is a known issue. The trucks are hit and miss. Mark mine as a miss.

Yep, mine was leaking there too. I also had a leak at the heater hose where it connected to the block on the passenger side, down by the turbo. It was enough to see the level drop in the tank but not enough to see on the floor in the garage. Apparently it was blowing off, drying up, evaporating, whatever before I could find it. All i did to fix it was tighten the factory hose clamp. Been holding the fluid level ever since.

Yep, had to put a zip tie on my 04.5 too. The other thing you guys with the 06's might want to check are the coolant line connectors on the passenger side of the block under the turbo flange or thereabouts. Those are a known failure on the 06's. They will leak coolant down the block. I've been keeping an eye on my dad's 06 and so far he's good to go.
