Who is using a oil pre filter and which one does everyone like best? Also what brands are out there, I know Amsoil makes one and I can't remember the other one I heard about.

 

the only one I know of is amsoil.

 

You can build one with line and a block from cummins.

 

yer current filter is good for 10 micron..........you dont need a pre filter for that but ifin ya wanna do something put a polish filter on............................they run a 10% slip stream off the finished side of the OEM filter and polish down to 2 micron the return flow back to the sump

Now I'm curious, are we talking bypass filtratiion or a pre-oiler? This is what I thought was origianlly asked about: AMSOIL - AMS-Oiler? Oil Precharger (AMO)
Maybe not. And if it is, I"ve never seen one in use myself.

 

That really wont benefit you with your truck, its not a pre filter as i understand them they are to replace your current oil filter, the ones that really benefit from these filters are the PowerStrokes because their injectors run off of high pressure oil so that even dirties there oil more than just the normal diesel does and this system helps alot with that...but with a Cummins the FS 2500 oil filter is not really a necessary thing to run IMO

 

Sorry, I meant the bypass filtration system. Isn't the fs-2500 similar to the Amsoil set up? I was thinking about putting one on my truck, seems that I would be able to go longer between oil and filter changes using synthetic oil and one of these systems?

A stock filter is absolute around 30-40 micron IIRC...unless you get into the EaOs or extra efficiency versions.

There are a ton of options for a bypass...Frantz, Amsoil, GulfCoast (what I run), FS2500, Baldwin, Oilguard, Racor, Motorguard, Luberfiner, and even Fleetguard all offer bypass filters. The question is how much do you want to pay initially, how involved do you want the maintenance, how much room do you have, and how much do you want to spend on replacement filters...

IMO, the Frantz is the best bang for the buck...the unit costs around $100, the elements are $1 from the local grocery store, they filter well, and they are small.

 

I'm installing the amsol BMK11 on my truck this week and will take pics if interested. I made a bracket(simple out of 3" angle iron) and it screws on right in front of the air intake using the 3 empty screw holes located there.
