Default 3rd Gen 1/2 Ton Frame Vs 3/4 Difference? Helper Air Bag Question

I've been looking at a air bag helper system for my 06 when I'm hauling loads or hooked to the trailer. I have found a kit but it came off a 03 1/2 ton. Id like to buy it but dont know if the kit will fit on my 3/4 ton. They are Firestone air bags but the guy cant remember the brand kit or find any paperwork on it. I've noticed that some companies will fit 1/2 to 1 ton trucks and others are 1/2 ton vs 3/4 & 1 ton kits.

anyone have a idea on what is different between the two? maybe the bracket to saddle the axle?

Thanks
Ian

Bout the only difference, I think, is the power train (engine, trans, and axles).

Pretty sure the frame is considerably thicker, not to mention, any of the brackets for the rear axle are going to be way to small, the axle tubes are considerably smaller on the 1500.

Both of my trucks are 05s, the 2500 and the 1500. I looked at both and there are a lot of differences. The frame is the same or appears to be, but everything on the 2500 is much larger. (axle, shackles, and so forth) I would be leery of it working properly. Just take a look at a dealership and compare what you see, that might give you a better idea.

Smoke, go on Firestones web site, use their "by vehicle search" of both trucks, if the part numbers it spits out are the same, your in business. I would guess the 1/2 ton bags would be lighter duty then ones for a 3/4 ton. Plus you could download the installation manuals from their site too.

Thanks!
I got them in the mail and where it bolts onto the bump stop the 1/2 ton distance from bolt to bolt is 1" longer than the 3/4 ton....

I looked at the install manuals on firestones website... the top mounting bracket is different... the 3/4 /1 ton trucks have a gusset that goes up to the frame to somewhat brace it unlike the 1/2 tons. I Emailed firestone tech support to see if I could get the brackets but have yet to hear back so Im going to make my own and throw em on..... yet another project to the list

if you can do the welding it's no problem. I took a set off of a 2006 dodge 3/4 ton and made them work on my buddies 2002 GMC 1/2 ton. A little creativity and anything can happen. Had to make new mounting plates but no biggie.
