Default New to me 04’ Cummins

Hey everyone. New to the forum here. I just got out of a 1998 12V and I must say, it really did well. It was only 2 wheel drive but it pulled very well. Today I just bought an 04’ Cummins. Not to familiar with these Common rail systems. The truck is very very clean and runs amazing. I wanted to know some general information and preventative maintenance tips so I can keep up on it. I’m really excited about this truck. What can I expect for fuel MPG and power opposes to the 12V. Thank you very much for all of your input.

I don't know compared to a 12 but I get roughly 18 with a load 23+ without. I think with a spare injector, fuel filter, and u joint you are safe to go anywhere

For best MPG keep it stock- 18 and 23 are likely off the overhead console which isn’t the most accurate- hand calculate for accurate mileage. With that being said stock - driving very easy (under 1800 rpm) you will get about 20mpg empty- sweet spot us about 1700-1900 rpm rolling down the road- each motor is a little different

Use the best fuel filter possible (4 micron or lower).

If you want a hot rod just add fuel- keep in mind your transmission will need to be the first replacement/upgrade!
