Engine Serial Number frustrations...
Can anyone tell me what to do if I cannot find my engine serial number. I've had a diesel mechanic look all over the engine with no luck. I have the VIN, and I've called both Dodge and Cummins and neither one can help me. The only numbers on the engine all start with a "3" and are seven digits long. My mechanic and Cummins tells me that the SN is eight digits long and should start with a "5".

Yea, it's not there. I'm trying to order a service manual to rebuild the engine, but no one online will sell me a manual without giving them am engine serial number. One place told me that a lot of people purchase the manual, reproduce the pages they need, and then return the manual stating it was the wrong one; therefore, most companies now require engine SNs, so the buyer cannot claim that it was the wrong one.

Ok, after chatting with a Cummins' diesel mechanic from another online diesel blog, he told me to go to the following website: http://quickserve.cummins.com
and create an account--you can get a limited account for free or pay weekly, monthly, or annually. After you create an account, you can login. There are several links all over the home page, but the 4th link down on the upper LH side of the page reads "VIN/SEN crossreference". Click on the link and a box will appear asking for VIN and SEN. Type in the information you have in one of the boxes (VIN or SEN) and select SEARCH. The link will provide you with the number(s) you need.
For instance, I knew my VIN, but I did not know my SEN, so I typed in my VIN, selected SEARCH, and it gave me my SEN.
There are a lot of people in the same boat as I am, and this information getting out would be a great thing!
