Cut off exhaust tip...how to extend?
I purchased a truck that the previous owner put a 10" exhaust on by spot welding it (see photo). I want to replace it with something less overkill, like a 6" tip. However the existing tip will need to be cut off due to the spot welding and both are 18" long; thus when I cut off the current tip I will lose about 3" of exhaust pipe. When the new 6" tip bolts on, I want it stick out exactly where the current one is. Not any further in or out. Any ideas how I can "extend" the 5" exhaust pipe that 3"? Only thing I can think of is using a 5" muffler delete pipe and cutting of the length I need. However those are $50+. Thats alot of $$ for a 3" extension...
i agree, grind the welds in two and the tip should comer right off, but if you need a little more length it looks like you might be able to loosen off the u-bolt and maybe gain an inch then tighten it back down.
