Default spare key

Here we go, I need a spare key, only got 1 with the truck lost it,found it now i want a spare, but..i went to the hardware store that makes '' high tech keys'' on friday, the kid there didn't want to make a copy because he didn't want to make 70.00$ mistake. I worked today so my wife to the key up today they ran it through some scanner thing, told her she has to have the truck there. told her they need to plug something into my truck. Now i am getting worried. Can mr. hardware screw up my truck? What about my program? Or should i bite the bullet and go to the stealer ship? Any body got any idea's?

Buy the keys on ebay. Have them cut anywhere! Then program them as stated on any search! Lucky you have a good key if not you would have to go to the dealer!
