Default 2006 cummins 4wd popping out

2006 ram 2500 popping in front. I have a 2006 dodge ram 2500 cummins quad cab short bed 4wd. Every time I put it in 4wd or 4lo it will pop out. The light will stay on but when I let off the accelerator it will go back in. I don't know where to start and have been reading other forums trying to get some where to start. Help please as it is winter and I live on a hill and tow trailers.it is an automatic with the automatic 4ed turn dial.

The shift solenoid is likely failing...when I still owned one, that was a known problem on the electronic shift versions.

How would I find a new one? I have been looking online and can't find any type of solenoid.

2006 DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP Motor

Looks like they term it a "motor"...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I would suspect the "motor" or the actual switch is likely your issue. Maybe start by pulling the connectors off the "motor" and see if you have any corrosion or the like.

The actual diagnosis calls for using an oscilloscope to watch the motor function. The mechanical system can't be diagnosed until the electrical side has been verified.

Ok. Well I'll try and talk to a few guys and see what they say. I'm just hesitant to taking my truck to a shop and 1,000 dollars later it still isn't fixed. But it's starting to look like I won't have a choice. Thank you so much for your help though!

A good shop won't do that. A good shop will be able to provide you with data to prove why it's not working and why their fix will work. Sometimes a shop a have no choice but to take a gamble but before doing so they should consult with you and make sure you understand the possibility of the repair not being the fix.
