I had an edge programmer on my old 7.3 PS and it did some damage, rough tunes. I switch to a TPS 6 position and it was awesome. I have a manual trans in my cummins but I have heard modded auto's can take a beating ... for a little while.

Is your tranny the stock one? Manuel or auto? My 06 has 145k and had a edge j/a most of its life with the stock auto tranny (which is on its way out). Keep the band's adjusted in them to make it last a tad bit longer.

If auto: keep bands adjusted, fluid (synthetic only) changed not flushed, bump up the line pressure (research like I had to, the "how to" is out there), gut the pos converter anti drain back valve, you will be amazed at how durable these 48RE's are (speaking from experience).

I've read approximately 450hp and 750tq is the limit on a stock 48re.

If your transmission is healthy (clutch packs and intermediate band), you can put in a good triple disc converter and a properly built and calibrated valve body and buy yourself some time and pick up some performance. I would also put in a Sonnax billet accumulator piston and billet intermediate servo cover while I was doing the valve body.

But, your input shaft/direct hub is still going to be a weak spot, along with a stock band that is nothing to write home about...
