just kinda wondering my friend has a 07 6.7 ram it's tow truck so he'll idle up so the witch will move faster so is just a 6.7 thing or can you do with any cummins say 03 5.9 will it do the same thing and idle up by using the cruise ?

 

Some of the 3rd Gens can do it if its been enabled. You have the check by turning cruise on and using the accel button, which will bring the idle up by 100 rpms at a time. If it doesn't work the feature has not been enabled and I'm not sure how you would go about getting it done.

 

You can enable is with any high end scan tool but with factory programing the idle up mode is in autos only

 

i think i'm gonna bring the truck to Dealership anyway cause i had power steering **** out and now i have no heat unless shut it off and turn it back on but i know the cummins tech at dealership and he's done few things to for me like maker run just wee bit phat and i might have him enable the the Idle up on so it warm up faster this winter i would done this along time ago if i knew about it , and my 03 might become a light duty for towing thinking about getting new/newer truck with 6.7 like 2011-ish maybe gotta see if the money will play out

 

An 03 will require a new ECU and speed control to make the idle up work with the buttons. won't work with cruise control.

If you can find an upfitter that builds wreckers and stuff they migh have an add-on that will do what you want.

 

yah i called and talk to my cummins tech and he said he have to do switch to idle it up witch would work just not sure the cost but your other thought about talking to tow truck out fitter is good idea! did think of that
