Default What would wear out tranny front seal?

I have a 3500, lost ATF from the inspection cover on the 48re. Pulling the transmission tonight. Just wondering what would cause it to leak in that area. I am assuming its the front pump seal since the TC is dry and seems to be coming down from the seal area. Fluid level is low on the stick but not completely out so I hope I caught it in time. Only symptom was it was revving a little higher to engage in drive, no other issues, put about 5 miles on it like that before I noticed a small pool. I ordered a couple front pump seal sets as well as long extensions to reach the TC bolts with the impact.

Didn't see any wear marks on it. First time in there. Just waiting for new seals and filters to come in and I will get it back together. Looks like the o-ring on the pump went out. It was only leaking in Neutral, didn't notice it until I had the truck parked in neutral trying to find out where it was dripping from.
