This has happened twice now. On a hot day (?) at a red light apply fuel to go and only get idle. got over to side and let it sit not running for 10 minutes. Started it and two pumps on the pedal and it reved up. put it in gear and drove away. Engine light was on. Got to destination. On return trip engine light was not on.
No more issues until a week later up a hill with a small load on trailer and went to idle again. Was hot but not that hot and the temp gage on engine was right at mid. While rolling got to side. turned off engine waited 10 minutes and it worked again. Engine light on. Next start of truck engine light was off !

 

You need to get the codes pulled (it might be a history code if your check engine light is off at the time), some parts stores will do this for free. Post the code and I can get a description and some diagnostic tests for you.
