Best year for common rail??
Right now i have an 06 LBZ Duramax and after reading about pistons cracking im thinking of buying a cummins because replaceing pistons is something im not looking into doing. Im just wanting to know what the best year for the common rail is to buy and any problems with those years. Whether its injectors cracking pistons head gaskets bottom end failuar cracking blocks like the old 53 block or anything you can think of id like to know. Also with that year any problems with the body like the front end. Thanks guys

My mechanic friend does a lot of ball joints on the 03+ front ends.
That's all I know about the trucks. I'm interested in this as well. In a few months I'm hoping to be able to buy me a decent newer rig and a Cummins is my second choice.

2004.5 325hp 600lbft available with nv5600 manual and metal cac tanks. Maybe some early 05's had the 5600 too. After that you get the 610 engine with injectors that have the ability to melt down pistons with little to no warning or at the very least fill your crankcase full of diesel. Also for the guys wanting a manual youre stuck with the g56 that is very common to fail. You can get efi live for the 06 up and the interior and front end is somewhat nicer looking and the 06 ups don't seem to be as vounerable to dropping valves/seats but, the 04.5 and some 05's are the way to go.
