Default need a little advice

engine starts then quits, after 2 or 3 starts will run normal idle 750 rpm,s then begins to idle up and down. When it idles up starts smoking. When you start from a dead stop engine begins to run rough and sometimes will stop.Check engine light does not come on. Any help with problem would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again for any suggestions

How dramatic is the idle change? Is it really high when it starts smoking? What color is the smoke?

Interesting it wouldnt start smoking because of the rpms but it definitely sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue as well like its getting to much at an idle im still pretty new to cummins but i would monitor duel pressure if you can when its doing that and see if its jumping all over the place when it idles up

Check the map sensor. It could screw with idle and cause smoke, make sure the connections are good,
I would bet map sensor based on description
