Default pillar post guage install

I need some advice.
Two years ago I installed Auto Meter guages in a Pillar Post Pod. The top end of the pod continues to break away from the pillar post. I was thinking about drilling a small hole thru the plastic Pod into the post frame then remove the Pod and thread the hole and secure the Pod with a small bolt. Has anyone else tried this and what was the outcome?Thank you for your advice.

on my 01, when you take the pillar cover off, there is a small hole about 3 inches from the top. I didn't like the way they want you to attach the gauge pod, so i put a new self tapper through the pod, and it fit right into that hole. I can get some pictures for you if you want. It doesn't look terrible

I removed the factory plastic, drilled the pod at the top and put a screw in mine as well. Way better than attaching it over the plastic pillar trim.

Here's some pictures. I should've drilled the hole lower on the pillar but oh well. The self tapper is a 5/16 hex head.

My truck doesn't have the infinity sound system so it doesn't have the speakers in the pillars

I bought the pod that had provisions for the tweeter.
These things aren't too much money, and it may be wise just to get a new one. Maybe under warranty even, contact the manufacturer and find out.
