Default breaks up low power

I have a 2001 cummins and I just replaced the stock lift pump with a FRRP unit thinking it would fix my problem the truck breaks on on idle when you rev it and is low on power going up hills It does not have the MIL light on but I checked any way and it had these stored codes P0234 and P0216 I cleared them and will see if they return.

P0234 - Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate
P0216- Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction

As bad as I hate to be the one to tell ya bud but it sounds like ur vp44 is fixing to take a dump on ya. I would put a post in the price request section and see what kind of deal the vendors could do for ya. Not playin favorites or anything but I got one from Luke at Diesel Dawgs Perfromance for a pretty good price and his customer service rocks. And for the wastegate u could try to take it off and spray it down with wd-40 its probably rusted shut.

Is there any way to test the pump?

Umm not that I know of, the best thing to do is get a fuel pressure gauge on it asap to see where ur at on fuel pressure and a new lift pump (airdog, fass). Thing is is if it is on its way out a new lift pump may not do any good for it. BUT I also had this code come up on my truck and it died while in cool down mode and wouldnt start. I let it set for alittle awhile and it fired right up and I drove it like that for probably a year till I got a new one. Also there is a site that sells a new plug that plugs into the vp44 (cut and splice it into the wire harness) and they claim that some times the connector doesnt set good with the vp connector or something like that. Hope this helps man maybe someone else will chime in with more info.

the problem is the pump. if ur local diesel shop told u an injector after knowing it had a p0216 code, they dont work on many vp trucks. i have yet to see a truck throw a p0216 code and it not be the pump. and ive changed a probably 25 vps total. bout 10 had the p0216. and a few had other pump codes. bout %50 didnt have a code at all
