Default Boost - How Much

Hi,

Question: How much boost can one (or should one) get out of a stock turbo and charger?

I'm playing this afternoon and had the smarty off but the comp on 4x5 (5x5 just smokes too much) and I managed 33 pounds completely unloaded, flat, dry, straight road. The EGT was 1200 F so I backed off.

you can get upwards of 45 psi out of them. how long they will last and your head gasket will last is a different story.... anything really over 35psi is just blowin' hot air.... not usable really..... 33-35 should be very comfortable for those stock turbos.....

Stock Duramax is that same way. Anything after 32psi is loosing efficiency but you can spool them much higher.

exactly when you just blowing hot air it doesnt help out at all even if its intercooled unles your like me blowing 53PSI out of a Phat shaft 62 than after about 55PSI its just wasted air and a stock head is only rated for 55PSI anyway

Boost is only part of the issue. Gotta watch drive pressures...

But back to the stock...

35 PSI for both HX35 and HY35 Turbos...

I'm turning right out at about 33-35 PSI with my Edge Comp on 5x5. My pyro can get to as high 1300 roughly...

on a HX35 anything past 35 psi is out of the MAP effeciency so anything above that will be very hot and only net higher EGT's
