Default VP-44 SELECTION

Hey guys, new to the site, previously on dodgetruckworld.com for long time, not a whole going on there at the moment... So I'm pretty sure my vp died or is going out. Long hard starts progressively getting worse until yesterday it would not start. After multiple attempts turning over and over the last time it fired up and drove it home and parked it. It also has kinda rough idle... I have an air dog 100 so it should be getting fuel... I don't know what else to condemn the culprit. So if this turns out to be a vp44 issue then whats the best place to buy one? I know of blue chip that is well known and cumminsperformanceparts.com is a good place... Please help!!!

X2 Check pressure and codes. If it ends up being the VP, I can't recommend enough Diesel Auto Power. They sell rebuilt (and tested) ones for $970. Good people to deal with also.

Check your codes. These are a list of the most common codes condemning your VP44:
P0216 (often referred to as the code of death and most common code for VP44 pump failure)
P1688
P1689
P0215
P0251 - P0260

Also, I'd recommend a SO VP44 from what I was told a Bosch Reman is the best pump out there for the money. I recently had to install one on my truck and it's been running awesome.

Ok, thats some good info.. I just replaced the return valve/ overflow valve and the hard start seems to have disappeared... Weird, with 2 new batteries it seems to run great.. IDK we will see what happens in the long run.....

Good choice. It's always better to start with the smaller, less costly, parts before actually ordering a pump.
