Default 24v Newbie Questions!

Im new to the 24v world because i sold my 12v and thought id see what a 24 would do. I know if you ad toomuch power to the stock lift pump then it will give out. I dont want no outrageous mods. I just want a little smoke and a little more power. What are some small things i could do for this? The truck is a 99 2500 4x4 with a 6 speed. I dont have the truck yet sposed to be picken it up in a couple days. I figured it must be a late model 99 because from what ive heard thats when they came out with the 6 speeds, and since it is a 6 speed, does that mean its an H.O.?

The truck is all stock and im just wantin a little smoke and some fun in the truck.
Thanks.

How many miles are on it? The stock lift pump will give out regardless. Doesnt take adding anything. Put an Airdog, FASS, or something on it as soon as you get it. The injection pump on these were never designed to pull fuel from the tank only push to the injectors. So when the lift pump fails the injection pump follows soon after. Dont be scared of people saying the VP-44 is a horrible injection pump. Its no P7100 but its good aslong as you keep it happy with lots of fuel. I have 200K miles on my stock VP and she just dyno'd at 406hp this past weekend. I put an Airdog on mine at 34k miles and never looked back. Since you owned a 12v you know of the death wobble so I wont talk about that. I would add a good lift pump, cold air intake(BHAF,AFE,S&B), 4in turbo back exhaust, double disk clutch, and Edge Juice with Attitude/CS/CTS. Thats a good base with plenty of power and should bump your mpgs by 3-4. I would recommend doing it in the order I listed as well. I love my 24v.

Theres 192k on it. I know alot about the 12v's but never heard of the death wobble.

I guess i need a little lesson here, what exactly does the lift pump do? Is it the pump that goes in the fuel tank? And how much does an airdog or FASS lift pump cost? Im going to be On a limited budget so i only want to get whats absolutely necessary. Im going to straight pipe it with a sawzall and some fabricating. Any chips that you know of that under 3 or $400? Ive heard of doing the boost fooler but idk if that will hurt anything or not.

death wobble occurs when the track bar end loosens up. from what I understand the track bar keeps your axle centered. it hooks from your frame to your axle. and you can upgrade it with a lukes link or something similar. agree change your lift pump and quadzilla adrenaline smokes well

One thing to watch for is the '53' block in the early 24V. These blocks are known to crack on right side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold (near the freeze plugs in the block). If it is a '53' block you will find this in the front left corner of the engine below your injection pump. It will be stamped on the block above the oil pan. Although these blocks are known to crack I personally have one and haven't seen any problems. As for mods to your 24V lift pump is a must. Earlier models had the lift pump on the left side of the engine mounted to the block then they were moved to in the tank due to these on the block lift pumps failing more frequently. An Air Dog or a FASS system or even a Raptor, which is air dogs cheaper lift pump, will work great. Also if your looking for smoke a Smarty will give you all you can handle. I have mine in the mail and will be getting it this weekend. Also, i'd recommend at minimum a fuel pressure gauge. You don't want to see no less than 5psi or else you'll be looking into a new VP Pump.

They never came factory in the tank, although if you buy a lift pump from dodge that is what they're going to sell you. They are junk too. A wire with an inline fuse off the driver side battery (a few inches from the terminal) that leads to a mess of wires and a relay mounted to firewall will tell you there is an in-tank pump. Everybody said it above and they are 101% correct, lift pump upgrade is mandatory and fuel pressure gauge will go a long way as well.
