Default 99 5.9 starter problems

I just finished replacing the starter contacts and plunger with the kit from Geno's Garage due to my starter only clicking when turning the key to crank the engine. Now when I turn the key to on, before even trying to crank the engine, I hear a strange noise (sounds like starter motor spinning without engaging with flywheel). It only lasts about a second, and when you turn the key the engine cranks and runs normally. Has anyone else had this issue, or know what would've caused this?

Your lift pump makes this kind of noise when its drawin fuel fuel from the tank. Now if it is your starter wheel spinning, you might've blown the solenoid.

It's much louder than the lift pump, and the starter still functions normally.....cranks the engine as normal.

I have the new contacts and plunger sitting in the garage, have had them for 2 weeks just been putting off the swapping them out. How hard is it to get to the top bolt on the starter to take it out?

It was simple. 10mm 12pt socket with a 10" extension will get the top bolt out. I finished the entire job, removed starter, replaced contacts and plunger, and reinstalled starter in about half an hour. Strange enough, the odd sound I started this thread about quit about the 5th time I started the truck and hasn't done it since.
