Default Just Bought a 02 Cummins, Need to make it fast

I just bought a 2002 (EDIT FOR TYPO) Cummins and I need to make it fast. The whole truck is stock and I need some help to make it fast and I want it to smoke. What upgrades do I need to get to make it fast and to make it smoke? i have never really dealt with diesel trucks before so i am kind of a dummy when it comes to this stuff.

Ok what are you thinking for horsepower 500-600hp? First thing is get a good lift pump like a Fass or Air Dog 150 lift pump to keep the injection pump happy and a fuel pressure gauge. this gauge is extremely important on any truck that has a VP pump becuase our injection pumps are super finicky. Second get a cold air intake like a S&B Intake or a AFE intake and a good 4in exhaust or 5in if you want it loud. Does the truck have a auto or manual in it? if it has a auto trans you will want to look into building the trans before adding fuel. For the simple fact that dodge autos suck. If its a manul i would look into doing a 3250 or 3600 dual disc clutch to hold the power. Then we can start looking at adding fuel and air after these first to items are accomplished you can add a chip like a edge comp or juice with attitude for a chip. If you go with a edge comp you will need to run a analog boost, egt, and fuel or trans temp gauge to monitor engine parameters or a edge insight digital gauge. If you go with the edge juice with attitude the controller has the gauges built right in to monitor all those parameters. After you select a chip you can now look into larger injectors and a turbo. hope this helps

Yes and a good lift pump to insure injection pump longevity

No... but you do need a good 150gph pusher pump, raptor or airdog, and gauges. That stuff will spare you the $1000 injection pump. It's your truck man, do whatever you want, but if it was me I wouldnt even THINK about the tranny at this point... make some power, have fun with it and if it goes it goes. Just make sure you have the funds to replace what you ruin. You will learn quick these trucks aren't cheap.

The Quad makes more power but the Edge makes smoother power with less issues.

yup i've had my edge for over a year now and zero issues, as far as my bud, he's had his quad for less than a month and it's already screwing up and is having to be sent back to quad.

i'll take reliability over power any day, especially on a daily driver....no point in making it faster than the guys truck who pulls up next to you if you can't finish the race and can't drive it tomorrow.
