Default swapping nv4500 to nv5600

What all goes into doing this swap? I figure clutch, flywheel, and maybe different hydraulics? Or is it more to the point of driveshafts and linkage, etc?

Just thought of doing this swap since lately I've been hearing the 5 speed isn't very stout after stock torque is exceeded, I don't know since mine is holding great with what's on it now but I want to reach 500hp eventually on my daily driver and have a reliable transmission behind the engine.

personally, Ive heard the opposite, that the 6 spd Nv5600 is weaker. Theres a few people on here swapping from 6 spds to 5 spds. Only thing i'd do to your 5 spd is a bigger input and a double disc clutch.

I'm laying down a shade under 500 hp and 1200 ft lbs , dyno proven and mine is doing fine,

thats what ive always heard that the 4500 was quite a bit stronger than the 5600. i agree put the 1 3/8 input shaft and a good southbend clutch.

hmmm on other cummins sites I've seen people saying they keep grenading their nv4500s and are switching to nv5600s, and the site that makes the fifth gear solution fix kit says the nv4500 is only good to about 460ftlbs. Unless this is only in 12vs? The only complaints I remember seeing were on the 12vs. unless they upgraded the trans for the 24vs?

The problems I seem to find most often are obviously input shafts, then fifth gear. I've seen a couple complaints that when running a dual disk they had to rebuild the trans because it fried syncros

so by saying that its only good to 460ftlbs they are saying the trans is under rated for even a stock motor. im quite sure that they are saying that to sell parts. ive seen many of these trucks with the 4500 make 1000 ftlbs with only a clutch and input upgrade and seen a few make 800 ftlbs with just a better clutch.

its not that they are stronger by any means the nv5600 is a beast but most people swap the 5600 for the 4500 due to parts being easier/cheaper to find. its a pretty easy swap btw. people love to buy the nv5600 i have 2 in my garage right now

the 5 and 6 speed are night and day diffrent to drive. If you are towing the 6 speed is way better, the extra gear is a welcome adition when pulling hills, but if you stay on flat ground the 5 speed is much smother to shift and easyer on cluch leg. trust me i drive bolth. I would not spend the money to swap because you would be better spending somwhere else. Plan on paying big money for 6 speed.

i hate my 6 speed.. theres way to much shifting.. when my 6spd goes out i will be strongly considering a 5 speed swap! my reverse is grinding already!
