Default Possible input shaft?

Hi everyone, i am in the process of doing the clutch on my dad's 99 ram 2500 4X4 5-speed, it has 193k on the stock clutch! We did the Edge Comp, 5" Flo-pro, and S&B cold air about 50k ago and had a few slipping instances in 4 and 5, and recently it started not going into gear while driving. So i ordered a Valair ceramic/kevlar clutch kit for it, just finished dropping the trans and it chewed up the side of the disc by the springs and cracked the whole center! I checked the input shaft and it has about a 1/4" of side to side, but no front to back movement, the pilot bearing doesn't look worn out. What are your guys thoughts on this, does it need a new input shaft, and do i need to remove the flywheel to get the pilot bearing out? Thanks for any input

yes remove flywheel to get to pilot bearing i would change it if i were you. 10 more mins of work. and as far as the input shaft.... im not positve but i think you may be able to upgrade to a 1 3/8 its alot bigger/stronger like i said not sure if they offer it for the nv4500.... but with the play... not sure if a 1/4 is to much but it would be just a bearing.. prety easy to do in the 4500 not easy in the 5600

A great trick for getting the pilot bearing out is to use wet pieces of paper, tear up a couple sheets into small pieces you can cram in there, soak them for a few, then pack it full. The usual socket and extension will work to pound in the paper. Saw it on youtube and it worked great on my small block chevy. way better than using grease. Also make sure you get that flywheel surfaced.
