New to 24v, looking for a quick bit of info to get started
Hopefully I will be pickin up a 99 2500 24v auto tomorrow. Im not new to diesels but this is my first 24v. As of now my plans are BHAF, 4in str8 pipe, and edge comp box to get it started. What are some of the first things I should address? Also, how do the auto trannys hold up in these trucks? BTW the truck has 133k on it. Thanx in advance.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Lift pump is a good idea especially if you want the comp box and the fuel pressure gauge is a smart idea as well, don't want to burn up the injection pump because they ain't cheap. As for after that get yourself a boost, egt and transtemp gauge and some injectors and she will be good to go!

The basics of the 24v is you need an aftermarket lift pump like a fass or airdog, a fuel pressure gauge and that will keep your truck alive. the transmission is better left alone till your ready to build it. A valve body is more like a band aid fix. I see your looking at a 99 check on it being a 53 block or not. 99's were pretty popular for them. I didn't like the straight pipe sound of mine in cab it was quite loud. Whats your plans for this truck. then the ideas for turbo injectors etc can be given.

Bang on 01quadcab! I was thinking the same thing as I was scrolling down. What are the plans for this truck? I also agree on the exhaust issue, the cab drone can get really old really quick without a muffler. I had factory sized straight exhaust when I bought the truck, and now have 5" with a muffler. The larger exhaust and muffler reduced the drone in the can significantly. 5" is overkill, and 4" is all you need, but I wanted 5".
