Default Fuel Mileage

What's the average acceptable fuel mileage on a 1998.5 Cummins 4x4 5speed stick. The truck is totally stock and runs well, just loves diesel. What can be done to increase fuel economy?

mine could get 16 easily and better if I drove it nice. Better exhaust and intake with a small performance chip will help.

Mine gets a bit better than that and I have nearly touched 23 a couple times. How did you get a rig weight of 3600? Mine weighs double that.

Mine rolls in at 7,400 lbs with a full fuel tank. The bed has a spray in liner, so that adds a few hundred. I scared 25 MPG (24.78) all hiway before the compounds. 65HP injectors, HX35, and EJWA on mileage. I set the cruise to 105 km/h (71mph).

this depends on how you drive it and gears etc. I know with mine is loves constant rpm I have gotten 25.75 at best and towing a heavy enclosed trailer 11.5 at worst. Driving habits have a lot to do with it. A small set of injectors and a programmer will give a good boost, also switching over the gear oil and motor oil to synthetic will help.
