Default Need Help

I just purchased a 01 3500 6speed dually with 119000 miles. The truck will only start if you roll it off or use a little shot of starting fluid. It seems to crank over fast enough. I read the error codes and get P0500, P 1492 and P 1673.

I drove the truck from SC to VA and it runs strong as long as you don't romp on it, then it misses pretty bad. It will not idle. On the trip home the throttle would stick at around 1800 RPM like the cruise control was on.

The check engine light is on, ABS light is on. The fuel guage was showing 1/2 but when I stopped at a rest stop and started it back up the low fuel light came on.

The lift pump pressure is 19 lbs befor and after the fuel filter....

Anyone have any ideas

p0500 is your speed sensor, 1493 is the temp sensor, not sure what 1673 is... sounds like the vpp44 injection pump is going, do you know if its ever been replaced???

I don't know anything about the truck. I bought it from a dealer who probably bought it at auction. I bought the truck right so I have room to spend some money to make it right.

Just don't want to go repalcing parts without any ideas...

Well the most common Problem on th 98.5 to 02 cummins is Lift pump failing which causes the vp44 to fail... But if your getting 19psi it sounds like the lift pump is good.. Another common problem is the computer that is built into the vp44 goes bad causing alot of weird symptoms... The thing with the vp going bad is it doesn't always throw a code... Do you know if it has an aftermarket lift pump on it? Your abs light is on because your speed sensor is bad. vp's run about $1000.. Some symptoms of a bad vp44 are hard starts, erratic idle, missing..
