what did I MISS?
well without a wiring diagram and something that tells me what dose what heres my guess
the stock 01 alt has 3 wires 1 charge and 2 to the regulator dose the ECM NEED to "see" the alternator?
being this thing is in a 1st gen the motor is 100% stand alone using the 1st gen wiring harness so everything works from the key switch to the gauges
so as far as the ECM not being happy with the alternator due to the EXT REG
IDK i need to sit down and trace some things the whole harness is 100% complete still
so going back in and changing something is no big thing

Lol ill get you some diagrams, search my post the wiring explanations for all three charging systems are in some post that I did recently. Ecm has nothing to do with charging and vice versa.
