I've had my Cummins for just over 30,000 miles now and this weekend I figured I better change the gear oil in the axles since the factory recommends changing it ever 15,000 miles. Whoops! Rear axle looked just fine, then I cracked open the front axle and this is what I got . . . So i hosed everything down with 3M brake cleaner and cleaned everything up and filled her full of new 80w-90. Think it was just the silicon on the diff cover leaking? Needless to say I'm keeping a record book of maintenance now.

Milky oil usually indicate water in the oil.

I know. I figured maybe it was just condensation but there was a lot of water in that. it sure seemed like the seal on the diff cover was sealing fine, so how does that much water get in the front axle? I reset the APPS and i could tell a difference so thats good

I wonder if it could be axle seals?

I've never even been in water that deep. But i suppose splashing a few puddles and 3 winters of minnesota snow would do it??

Yeah plus you need to account for condesation to. Especially where you guys are so humid

Yeah i suppose. Well I'm going to keep an eye on it better now. Like I said I'm keeping a maintenance record now.

Yeah I always have and it helps alot. Speaking of this I need to do mine while its in the shop torn apart
