02 or 05 wrecked truck.
i am debating on getting a 02 cummins with 87000 miles or an 05 cummins slighty hit buy restored with 83,000 miles. which one to get. also which truck is more reliable the 02 has vp44 pump issues but the 05 has injector problems if not filtered good. both trucks around 13,000 dollars.

Either truck should be fitted with a GOOD filter system. For their own obvious reasons. That would make ME lean more toward the 05. However WHERE hit? How bad? Frame damage?
Does one have more/better options that you like - sport package, power windows/locks, etc?
The 02 is easy and affordable to mod and tune. I do NOT know that much about the 05 but i heard their parts are way more!
If it were me and i had that choice i would go with the 05. I LOVE the way they look!! As long as it wasnt twisted like a pretzel when it got hit and has doors that dont open right or squeeks EVERYWHERE!
ALSO - check to see if the 02 has the 53 block!! Thats even more costly then a failed VP44!!
Hell Id even trade MY truck mods and all for a NICE 05 with low miles like that, given it was a quad cab short bed! Interested? HAHA!

That would be worth a CarFax.
You should be able to have him give you reciepts OR give you the info on shop it was repaired at. Then you can find out how bad it was yourself.
I would still jump on the 05... They are SICK looking!! You want a sick 2nd gen then buy that 05 and trade me. HAHA!
