Have you asked him what's actually wrong with the block? It's a 99 so it most likely has the 53 block, is it just cracked or what happened?

Gonna def have to call and get some more info then what he typed. I'm gonna assume its a 53 block and cracked, not bad because he threw a rod threw it Itd def be worth a look if your interested. Some of the blocks can be stitch welded back together and lived long lives after that. I wouldnt go more than 5500 is its just a simple crack and no other signs of abuse or rust, as in near perfect truck. Its always hard to put a value on a truck that doesnt run... Lota risk involved

yeah i wouldn't pay as much as he is asking, depending on the shape of the rest of the truck is what the value is going to be, and you never know i found my truck and they were asking 8k for it, got them talked all the way down to 3500! granted its in rough condition now, they thought it had a blown engine, just needed the fuel system blead. and i bought it from a mechanic so you never know what people are willing to do untill you deal with them face to face

None of the "So called Fixes" for the 53 block actually work for long.
So unless you have a spare block laying around I'd keep looking. Also the 5th gear nut issues. Not worth more than $3k in my book, and that's still too much.

Oh ya My 99 doesn't have the 53 block. But a friend of mine with a 01 has a cracked 53.
Everything you need to know about the 53 Block.

5th gear nut issues?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

this is what he toled me about the truck....
hi, sorry i dont have anymore pics on my computer of it but if you text me at 715-495-1416 i can use my phone and send ya some of it. the motor is a 53 block. which means its one bad block that dodge had. this means that they are know to crack right below the frost plugs because of a bad casting that they had to make the block. so pretty much the block that is in my truck has a crack right below the frost plugs. its not a wide crack it is thin and not very long either. it still runs great all that is happening is that antifreeze is comeing out of the crack and ya lose all your coolant. but on the bright side it is NOT leaking internaly into the engine just exturnally. which means IT IS NOT going into the oil!! ya just lose all your coolant. thats about it.

you can do the lockand stitch repair on the block that will hold and they sell reinforcements for it too. the fifth gear nut issues with these are the nut has no way from the factory to be locked into place so it eventaly loosens up and comes off leaving no 5th gear, again pretty easy fix for it many options on that just do a search. if you decide to buy the truck i would buy it with the intentions of changing the block anyways.
