Default High Idle 3cyl Cutout High Idle

I have been trying to get the flash done on my truck so that i can have the use of high idle and 3 cyl cut out. i went to dealer they said if i didnt have a high output 5.9l 24 valve they could do it. so i am now looking for a used Smarty Programmer or somebody in the Chicagoland area that might want to make a few bucks and let me program my truck.

Let me know, thanks

The dealer can do it, the high idle and 3 cylinder idle can be activated by them. The dealer would/will charge youabout $85-$110 for the flash. You might try a Cummins dealer to have the flash done. If you were closer I would do it for you with my SMARTY.

Welcome to DB!!

They can definitely do it, as my SO truck/engine/ECM has it enabled. There is another thread on here about someone having the same issues with the dealer.

When this is activated does the ecm automatically engage the 3cyl High Idle at certain temperatures or is it manually controlled?

Very Interested now because I live within 10 miles of both a Dodge and Cummins dealership.

The 3 cylinder idle and the high idle are both controlled by the computer/ECM. If certain temps are met, then the high idle is used, again if other certain criteria are met then the 3 cylinder high idle kicks in. If you plug in your truck, it generally doesn't use the idle features. When the 3 cylinder idle does kick in, the engine will sound like it is trying to tear itself apart. This is normal.

Well generally my truck is plugged in every night so it may not be necessary but always worth the thought. Thanks

my dealer said that the 3 cyl. high idle is for automatics only also it is a great thing if you can do it! it will automatically kick on if the intake manifold temperature is 32 degrees or lower and also if the coolant is 140 degrees or lower

The 3 cylinder high idle is also for the manual, I have it on mine. And yes it is GREAT!
