I've used Hitack before. It doesn't work too bad. Anerobic can be used with a gasket or without. My preferred method is to use a gasket and then coat both sides. Or else I only coat one side so when I remove a cover or a door the gasket stays with the engine. Unless it tears in which case your scraping it all off anyways.

 

ok. so i looked at the video and that just seems like the easiest route to take at the moment. i also took note where the front crank seal is since iv never seen a cummins timing cover off before. i believe my problem lies with the seal more than the gasket now. but it doesnt seem to be as hard to fix as iv heard. what do you think?

 

You might be able to tease the front seal out without having to take the timing cover off. I have not had to mess with it so I don't know.

 

theres supposed to be a "tool" that you can get to take the thing out with. but i dont have the money to rent it.

i googled the tool. id like to just buy it so id have it but its a little pricy right now.

to get the old seal out, use a sheet metal screw or two into the seal, and use a pry bar.

 

thats exactly what was in that seal puller kit. it would be a cake walk takin the old seal out. but what about puttin the new one in? or does it but up against a lip on the timing cover??
