Default bad vp pump

my dads 02 had the pump go out on it in jan. and i found a spare pump at the shop that wasnt completely bad and put on it for him, now it does this thing where it cuts out the fuel ( the truck still runs but doesnt have any power) after a little bit or if u play with gas the power will come back

i know the pump is bad but he is one of those guys who will drive it till it wont run at all, will driving with a bad pump ruin the motor-just like driving a cr with bad injector will cause a piston to melt?

I highly doubt it will ruin the motor. It will just leave him stranded somewhere inconvenient, or dead pedal at the wrong time, like when he is pulling out in front of a semi.

Default bad vp pump

That's what mine did when it went also... It's prolly not a good idea to drive around like that. Mine could barely even haul it's own *** uphill... If for some reason he'd have to stomp on it to avoid something he could be outa luck. His life is worth more than a thousand bucks and a few hours install time man...

i already scanned it a few times, its comes up with an injection pump failure code and always has an overboost code, he just use it as his work truck around town the wife never rides in it-theres only room enough for the driver most days, i was just wondering if anyone had it cause any other problems to the motor but it sounds like its a no, thanks for all the input guys

Default Dumb computer

The pumps computer has problems, its the classic dead pedal, pump de-rates down to like 45 horsepower.

Mechaniclly the pump is probably fine, just the computer on top has gone dumb.
