Default 47re cooler check valves

have a question i would like to have answered directly. I'm new here drive a 2002 dodge ram 3/4 ton diesel as my daily driver. had the transmision rebuilt about a 8500 miles ago the shop did a revist factory hd rebuild-what they called it, extra clutches, 48re pump and i also ungraded to a triple disc convertor. did the bd diesel noise isolator fix. trans works tons better then b4 i bought it. I am looking to upgrade the factory trans cooler up front by the radiator. i like the performance innovations cooler kit they have avail. but i've heard that removing the inline check valves may cause drain back from the convertor. i believe there are two check valves on the cooler lines that run to the front cooler where the transmission lines change from metal to rubber there's a metal clip where both lines connect. so is it safe to remove these check valves and install an after market kit like the one i stated. i dont tow, just and occasional load of fire wood and the truck doesn't even know its back there. i live in sacramento ca. where the summers are in the 90-100's.

I believe the check valve you speak of is on the trans cooler on the passangers side of the engine, looks like a sausage. It uses engine coolant to cool trans fluid.

i thought they were on the transmission lines that run the to front cooler where the metal and rubber lines connect that have the funny looking metal clips hold them together?

I removed all the factory lines, and the heat exchanger and found no check valves. I was looking for them either though. I really don't think there are any, as trans oil leaked from both ports when removed from the heat exchanger.

RAWilliams is right there were none in mine either. The check valve is in the valve body itself, when the shop upgraded the VB at least it should be.I have the same performance innovations cooler on the 2002 its a little bigger.Yes it is safe to remove them.

RAWilliams, what cooler set up are you changing your truck to, i'll most likely go with the performance innovations cooler kit. seems that, that is a real nice cooler to up grade too.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

do you guys know what those metal clips that connect the metal and rubber transmission line together that run to the front cooler.?

The clips do exactly that, hold the lines together Rather cheap set up in my opinion.

I'm not too sure what I am going to upgrade to, but I do need to change out the cooler up front. I am thinking of something with a temp probe to actuate it's own fan. I have adapter fittings in the housing that go from pipe to 1/2" JIC. I plan to add a T fitting into each line so temperature probes can be installed and monitor temp in and out of the trans. Manual gauge will monitor one, and the Attitude the other.
