I had to run a muffler to pass smog. I got a racing muffler from Twister. It cost $115. It cut my exhaust noise in half (needless to say it is not on now) but according to there site you lose little to no HP. http://www.flopro.com/Twister.htm

The twisters are nice. What exhaust do you have?

I hear ya. Well kinda of I got tired of the noise too and went with the aeroturbine 4040XL. It did reduce the noise in the cab a bit, don't have the drone like I use to and seemed to have lowered my egt's a bit also. Still has great sound outside of the cab. Not sure if it will be enough for what you are looking for as far as in cab noise.

I noticed a lot of cab drone disappeared when I compounded my turbos. Not a cost efficient fix, but it does kill a few birds with one stone.
If you have the room, you could put a semi style muffler under the cab/box.

Yeah the mbrp 4 inch muffler helps cut back on in cab noise and they still sound aggressive out the pipe

4040XL Aeroturbine is what I have. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I did it for the same reasons you are doing it.

MBRP sounds great but it does still drone a bit, i installed sound proofing in my cab and installed stacks and wow what a difference, now the only noise i have is from the motor and of course the stacks but its not loud at all.
