Default Auto Trans Slippage Question?

Hello,

Here's a question with my 47RE. I was going up a decent grade @ 65mph no load then i have the urge to pass another vehicle. I could see my RPM increasing but my speed was slow to catch up. The truck was perfectly fine no shakes no rattle other than slight torque converter slippage, I also bump the brake to see if the would torque converter unlock it does. Driving around in a normal matter the lockout torque converter is not slipping.

I know my torque converter is slipping but how much is normal?
Is it normal for the engine to overpower the lockout torque converter and slip a little?
When should I worry?

thanks
HD

the more it slips, the more friction material gets pumped into your trans after the filter, the more it heats the fluid, and less power to the rear wheels

you want ZERO slip

i'm only pulling a boat and less than 8K trailer at best, maybe a round bale carrier for the farm. When do I know I need a new torque converter? Sorry i'm new to the diesel automatic. Should have keep my 97ctd with 5speed at-least I know when the clutch is slipping. BTW I still have the NEW CLUTCH for the 97CTD anybody interested? should I start saving $$$$$ for triple lock TC.

It was most likely not slipping, if you let your foot off it at all it unlocked the TC. It has to relock it before the trans get the direct power. If you don't want that to happen you need a lockup switch. The poor man switch cost $9 to do your self. There is at least one or to threads on here that tell how to do it. The triple is the way to go. But there are a whole list of thing that you should do with it. Other wise you are going to have to drop the trans mulipule times and that gets very expensive.

By the way did those directions I sent you work?
