Default tranny change?

New guy here and my first post. I have a 2001 dodge 2500 4x4 w/cummins and automatic. My question: is it feasable to change over to a manual tranny and if so which one? Would there be computer issues? Truck has 99,000 miles now and I'm feeling scary about how much longer my tranny will hold up although there have been no issues so far. The truck is stock but for the lowest level Edge box I put on at 30,000 mi.

Many people have swapped their auto's for manuals. Most going to the 5 speed NV4500, i believe. For the cost and time involved you could get your auto rebuilt tougher. Just a thought.

It can be done, but why not just get your tranny built?
If you do it right the first time, it should be OK for the rest of the life of the truck really.

A fellow at work (diesel tech) said the same thing however his Cummins tranny or motor was always blown up from racing his vehicle. If having mine upgraded (rebuilt) where would I go for such a life-of-the-truck tranny? Obviously I know nothing about them but learning; I live in Seattle WA area so maybe someone knows the right guys here or not to far out?

Thanks for your input and knowledge.

I am partial to Goerend transmissions personally. I am sure he has installers in your area. If you are honest about what you want to do with the truck, he can build a tranny according to your needs. He definitely stands behind his products. I have one of his trannies in my '02; have had it for five years now and no issues whatsoever.
