Default trouble interpreting codes: P0216...

A ram 3500, 98, 24 valve cummins is not able to crank without starting fluid, has a loss of power and cuts off from time to time. Other codes flashing are: P1693, P0234, P0380, and of course P0216 injection timing control circuit. Please advise me as to what these codes mean?

Welcome Bryan

First, dont use staring fluid !

Do you have a fuel pressure guage to monitor the pressure your lift pump is putting out?

You likely need an injector pump.

P1693 is the companion code which tells you there are other codes
P0234 - is an overboost code. Possibly MAP sensor or wastegate
P0380 - Grid Heater A circuit malfunction - possibly caused by you using starting fluid
P0216 - you already seem to know what that one is.

Clear the codes and see if any comes back. But the loss of power is generally a telltale sign that you need a new VP-44
