is this a good deal or not on a 24v? advice please
so a guy down the street bought a cummins 2 months ago for $5500 1999 2500 24v 202k miles, meyers 7'6" plow, rust on doors, leather interior , ext cab 6ft bed. truck needded some front end work but ran fine.
he rebuilds the front end including trac bar and balljoints and wheel bearings on both sides, rotors and pads, including 2 new tires and alignment.
week later truck wont start, local diesel shop replaced speed sensor and crank position sensor, still wont start just turns forever. next day diesel tech attempyts to start, it fired up and ran fine. ran strong for 2 weeks, then one day just stalled out at idle and wont restart.
i did drive the truk while it ran, pulled hard, didnt have a dead pedal like some of the 24v with weak pumps, could almost say she ran perfect.4x4 perfect also.
what you guys think is going on here, he wants to sell me the truck for the same $5500 not running includes plow, and the $2000 worth of parts he sunk into it over the past month between front end and sensors.
i feel like the worst that could happen is she needs a pump, which will run me $1200-$1500 hopefully, any opinions here? maybe i should just pass it up?
i said id do 4500, hes firm on the 5500 also, any advice appreciated thanks in advance

I would tend to think the same, but I have been on the forums for over six years now, and every now and again I have seen some funky stuff, such as the ECM flaking off. If you don't need the truck for a daily driver, and it's in good shape overall, I would say it's a good deal. Just bear in mind it's not really useful until you work all the bugs out of it and it is once again dependable.

i can get an ext cab short bed 24v with around 150k miles for 9k for a preety decent one with small rot running strong shifting good ready to work, this ones 204k miles, and a few bugs :p and drivers door has some bad rot otherwise clean

however it does comer with a 7'6" meyers plow, not a huge meyers fan but hey, it pushes snow.
