starter contacts
Okay I'm pretty sure my starter contacts are pretty much ready to go, it was not as bad until today when it took forever to get my truck started, it just clicked once while turning the key each time. I'm pretty sure its not the starter though I'm going to do the contacts and plunger first and then if that doesn't work the whole starter will have to be replaced I assume.
So to the questions, how hard is this to do? I'm assuming you can't do it with the starter o the vehicle? Any tips for a first time at this?

Honestly no replies? Looks like I have to figure it out tomorrow morning by myself

It would save you a lot of grief if you pull the starter off. Not only can you access the solenoid better, but you can have a better look at the whole thing while it is on a bench.
You have to pull the starter off. Took me an hour to pull the starter install new plunger and contacts and put back on truck. Look into LarryB's contacts. The kit cost me $25 several years ago and the contacts are twice the size of the stockers. The bolts are 10mm and REALLY tight.
its all good now, i found a video posted by a moderator from a long time back on how to change them, doesn't look to bad but looks alot easier to do off the truck. and i need to get it fixed tomorrow so im just going to napa and hoping for the best. oh and i forgot to mention its going to be super fun because i have to do this before 11 tomorrow when i work and the only place i have to work is the parking lot outside my work because driving back to the house is 20 miles so that's not a very reasonable option.....so hopefully i have the right tools in my tool boxes when i leave tomorrow and hope i can get it done relatively quick in the parking lot haha

Well I had to order them from larrybs, no one in town sells the contacts and plunger, not even the cummins part department had them and the stealership was closed. Hopefully these get here soon, I was going to express mail them but it didn't give me the option so ill have to go 3 to 6 days on the bad contacts and hopefully they hold up because I have have college starting Monday. This is just greaat luck
