I forget does the 98.5 - 2002 have problems with the killer dowel pin?

 

I wanna say that it is not a issue with the 24v cummins, at least I haven't found anything yet because I'm searching right now.

 

absolutely a possibility. They upgraded timing case covers at some point but they used all the old cases. The only way to really know is to pull off the timing case cover.

The Killer dowel pin has hit 2002 model years. Many moons ago and guy posted a repair receipt from his Dads 02.

 

in 98.5 you're probably at a pretty good risk. i've never looked yet on my 99...and i probably should.

like the doc said...they upgraded the timing case cover to move over the dowel pin which was supposed to be a fix im sure it is definately still possible for it to happen tho.

 

My 2002 was a victim also,but was under warranty at the time.New case,new gears,new cam ,etc.

Minor fix.
