Don't need to take the axles out at all! The drums are most likely stuck on. Get some pry bars and a nice big hammer and see if you can work them off by pryin on the lip. Also if u know anyone with a brake adjustment wrench, there's a slot on the bottom of the backin plat that has a star wheel in it then you can adjust losser and that will help! It adjusts both ways though so your gonna have to see if the drum rolls harder after some clicks, just go the other way. Hope this helps!

An 02 should have disks in the rear.

Or was that just on the 3/4t?

ya this one has disk and also has the reg shoes used for parking but it is what they call a full floating axle and the drum is held in place by the axle it has 8 bolts at the end of the axle that when taken out will allow the axle to come out but it is also attached in the pumkin just not too sure how all that comes apart .
