Default VP44 install

Me and my friend took his pump out of his 1999 dodge and got a rebuilt one and reinstalled it. Ok so the truck was running great and then it just died. We cracked the lines to see if it was getting fuel and there was none then i unpluged the back of it and plug it back in and it got fuel so we put it all back and tried to start it agian. no start then i tried unplugging it again and nothing. Anyone have an idea on this. we checked the lift pump and it was working. thanks

sounds to as if you lost yer prime

crack injector lines 1,3,4 and bump the starter to give a run command on the LP.........do this a few times and fuel will oze out of the lines then tighten em down and bump one more time then start

Need to see how much press you have at the VP. Loosen the fuel line at the VP from the LP and bump the starter. once you have clean fuel, no bubbles, tighten the line. Then loosen injectors lines 1,3,4 at the head and roll the engine over until there is fuel coming out. Tighten the lines while rolling the engine.

well we cracked the lines and it was not getting fuel and we kept trying and nothing. so i loosened the line from the filter and got the lift pump to come on and it shot out everywhere then we tried the lines agian and nothing from the lines.

When installing the VP are you sure the key way is in place on the pump drive shaft? nut torqued? sometimes the key drops out of the shaft, I am sure you all know what your doing just trying to help.

yea the key way was in the right place and did not fall out when we put it in but how would we test the shut off solinoid on it is it like a 12 valve and on the side or is it in the pump.

Fuel shutoff is controlled electronicly inside the pump.

1999 and later systems use an ASD (automatic shut down relay) instead of a shutdown solenoid like on the early models. The Engine Control Module (side of the engine block) controls the ASD and monitors the VP 44 through the pump control module that is on the pump itself. There is a overflow valve at the return line from the pump like a check valve built into the banjo bolt set to recirculate fuel at around 15 PSI.Sounds to me like its electrical if you have fuel to the VP inlet but nothing out to the injector lines.Recheck the plug at the VP for damaged pins also your start/run fuses and the ASD relay in the power dist box on the fender well. Hope this helps.
