165,000 On A VP44??
Hey all,
I have 165K on my Ram and a few guys told me that my VP44 had to have been replaced BUT I have no idea. Is it true that with this many miles that it had to have been replaced by a prior owner? Is there a way to find out? I lost my lift pump last summer and my truck died on the side of the freeway. Brought it back home, replaced the lift pump and have been driving it since...

Original VP's with 300,000 on them are not uncommon on the road. But you don;t see them on these sites because of what we do with our trucks. We BOMB, that's why were here and when you BOMB you put additional stress on every part of the truck which shortens the lifespan. No matter how you look at it this is just the sad fact. We pay to play.
In talkin to the local Bosch re-builder a few years ago about these pumps he told me flat out that the biggest majority of cores he get's in have nothin wrong with them. When guy's have problems or shops work on these trucks the VP is just the first thing they want to blame and they replace em. Since then I have told every person I talk to about this to have their pump bench tested before they replace it. you have to pull the pump either way.
