This seems like a stupid question my one ton dually has 4.10 gears the axle is starting to growl and got some small metal in the oil I just changed it again today and lots of little flakes. Time to start looking for new. I'm near el paso lots of junk yards. What axles will work. Is a single wheel the same as dually rear? 3/4 ton 1 ton? I'm sure I have the 80 being a one ton dually what different years can I use. I can cut and remount axle perches been there and done that on my rock crawlers. Just want the same size yokes. A direct drop in would be easiest but I don't mind a little work. I think I would like 3.73 gears even though they didn't come in these years. I think 3.55s might hurt me too much I do some heavy hauling truck is work 75% of the time I have a car for a daily driver. thanks for any advice

 

Unless the housing is bent, why don't you just have the ring and pinion replaced?

 

I thought about it and still might but around here you can get axles cheaper a lot of tthe time

 

around here, in oklahoma, it is only cheaper if you get a pick-a-part. most people want 600-1000 for a 1ton axle. i got one from local yard for 130 out the door, but i pulled it.

OK that gave me about everything I need to know thanks. And ya I'm doing u pull it and now that my vehicle speed sensor just quit guess I'll be going here shortly so I don't have to buy extra parts.
